Canadian Parent Sponsorship

Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) permits Canadian citizens and permanent residents outside Quebec to sponsor their parents and/or grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada.

The federal government plans to targets 20,000+ new permanent residents per year under the Parent and Grandparent program. This immigration stream helps reunite the families, especially, the growing children with their grandparents. Additionally, it also offers substantial indirect benefit to the society as well as the  economy by establishing a support system for both parents who in-turn can focus on their jobs while children are growing under the supervision of grandparents.

Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Process

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) operates a lottery system for the PGP.

Citizens and permanent residents must submit an Interest to Sponsor form, before being placed in a pool.

IRCC makes random draws from the pool and issues Invitations to Apply.

The sponsors and their parents and grandparents then have 60 days to submit a full application.
