What is Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP)?

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade.

 

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is the only program available under federal economic immigration for tradespersons. Canada has a widespread labor shortage, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program is a promising pathway to Permanent Residence for such candidates.

What is The Minimum Score for Federal Skilled Trade Program?

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is one of the three programs under the Express Entry System. It uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank and invites applicants qualified in a skilled trade.

 
The primary eligibility for FSTP includes work experience in a skilled trade National Occupation Classification (NOC) code within or outside Canada.

Who is eligible for Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP)?

Work Experience

A minimum of 2 years of regular full-time employment (or equivalent part-time) experience, within the past five years in a skilled trade which may not be continuous, but acquired after obtaining the correspondent qualifications to perform such a job.

 

Job offer

A valid offer of full-time employment for a period of at least one year from up to 2 Canadian employers.

Certification

Alternative to a job offer, have a Certificate of Qualification in the said skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.

Language Proficiency

A minimum language ability of CLB 5 in speaking and listening and a minimum of CLB 4 in reading and writing.

 

Education

There is no education requirement for the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

 

If you want to improve your rank in the Express Entry pool you can claim points for eduction.

Proof of Funds

You must show that you have enough money for you and your family to settle in Canada, unless you are currently able to legally work in Canada and have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada

 

What are the eligible NOCs for the Federal Skilled Trades Program?

 
The Federal Skilled Trades Programs requires you to have experience in one of the positions in the following NOC codes:

  • Major Group 72, technical trades and transportation officers and controllers (excluding Sub-Major Group 726, transportation officers and controllers)
  • Major Group 73, general trades
  • Major Group 82, supervisors in natural resources, agriculture and related production
  • Major Group 83, occupations in natural resources and related production
  • Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors, and utilities operators and controllers
  • Major Group 93, central control and process operators and aircraft assembly assemblers and inspectors, excluding Sub-Major Group 932, aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors
  • Minor Group 6320, cooks, butchers and bakers
  • Unit Group 62200, chefs
